1．Warming up by looking and talking

Teacher asks: On May 12th, 2008, what happened to China?

(Students answer)

Teacher asks: Do you know any other natural disasters?

Please work with your partners and make a list of natural disasters(such as earthquake，snowstorm，flood，drought)．

Teacher shows the pictures of all kinds of disasters to the students and let them know about the power of nature and talk about them.

Purpose of my design:

(1) To catch Ss' attention about all kinds of disasters and the power of nature.

(2) To developSs' interest in volcanoes.

2. Teacher asks:

Do you know how a volcano erupts?

Have you ever seen a volcano?

(students may answer "no")

Then the teacher plays a period of video about volcano-eruption to help them.

Then encourage students to analyze the volcano diagram.

(Magma chamber, Lava, Crater, Ash cloud/volcanic ash)
